Tsv relay increases by seven seconds
The teams from berlin, erfurt or wattenscheid, equipped with top runners, paid to the favorites. For TSV hochstadt, who started for the first time with konstantin wedel, marco kurzdorfer and martin grau, the relay race was a good assessment after a so far mixed indoor season.
The goal was to improve on last year’s 7th place and also to deliver good individual times. Start runner wedel struggled to keep up with the high initial speed. In the middle part, however, the race slowed down considerably, so that wedel caught up with the field and overtook some competitors on the home straight. After a good 2:27 minutes, he switched to marco kurzdorfer, who was wedged in and almost lost his stick in the process. To make things worse he ran head-on into a stopped start runner. He avoided a crash but found himself at the end of the field.
He carefully fought his way up to 7th place and passed martin grau after 2:25,5 minutes. The latter had to run at a furious pace for the first 400 meters in order not to lose the lead. In front friedrichshafen, erfurt and berlin fought for the victory, which friedrichshafen surprisingly and razor thin brought to the finish line.
Biengartner fought for 5th place behind them, but had to admit defeat to LAV bayeruerdingen/dormagen in the final sprint. TSV hochstadt finished 6th in 7:18.93 minutes, improving by seven seconds on the previous year and thus becoming german runner-up last year. Next weekend, konstantin wedel will be aiming for a good 3000-meter time at the german championships in dortmund, while the rest of the team will be preparing for the cross-country season at the beginning of march.
