The audience at "singing and making music in advent" rewarded the performance with minutes of applause in the lauensteiner nikolaus church the performances of the players. On the third advent, the mixed choir of the singing society 1865 lauenstein, the flute group lauenstein, the lauensteiner blechblaser, the soloists stephan schmidt on the piano and the tenor mario frunske gave their best and demonstrated impressively that pre-christmas music – performed in a concert-like manner – has a high entertainment value.
The 90 minutes flew by with poems and speeches by gunther bergner, christel doring and erhard witte, who once again guided the audience through the program with his empathetic moderation.
Conductor frieder apel, who was also in charge of the overall direction, was visibly enthusiastic about the performance of his musicians. "Despite the difficult rehearsal conditions and the problem of always getting all the players under one roof, a concert has been created that is unparalleled in the upper district", according to frieder apel. He had specifically chosen songs and pieces of music ranging from well-known christmas carols to symphonic works, so that there was something for all tastes.
When asked why one still undertakes such a mammoth task at the age of 80, he said that there were two good reasons for it: first, one simply remains young – physically and mentally. And secondly, it was always a special pleasure to see the joy and enthusiasm with which his musicians approached such tasks – and that was the only way to explain their success. Especially at christmas time – a time when especially in lauenstein people traditionally sing and make music – it is important to animate people to make music through performances like this one, which is why three of the songs were sung together with the audience. The listeners who approached him after the concert were enthusiastic about the performance. For him, this was sufficient reward for the efforts he had made in the past.
